ASHEVILLE, NC — September 27, 2024
After unprecedented flooding from Hurricane Helene devastated parts of Asheville in late September, the Grand Bohemian Lodge Asheville has reopened its doors thanks to a swift and comprehensive recovery effort led by BMS CAT, a national leader in disaster recovery and restoration.
The floodwaters surged through the historic district, causing significant damage to businesses and landmarks, including the Grand Bohemian Lodge. “The first floor was eight feet deep in water,” recalled Matthew Lehman, General Manager of the hotel. “We watched as windows and walls blew out from the water pressure. It was the worst devastation I’ve encountered in 47 years of facilities maintenance.”
Once cell service returned, Lehman contacted BMS CAT, who had been recommended by a sister property. Within 24 hours, BMS CAT mobilized a full-scale response, deploying a large team equipped with specialized vehicles and restoration equipment. Their efforts included water extraction, debris removal, content recovery, and detailed preservation of the hotel’s handcrafted architectural elements.
“BMS CAT’s first concern wasn’t just the building, it was our people,” said Lehman. “They brought fuel, bottled water, even baby formula for our staff’s families who were stranded. They gave us hope in a dark time.”
Remarkably, a process that was projected to take 18 months was completed in just nine, thanks to BMS CAT’s efficiency and expertise. “Without BMS CAT, we simply couldn’t have recovered,” Lehman added.
BMS CAT has over 75 years of experience in disaster response, with 35+ non-franchised locations across the country. Known for their 24/7 emergency services and turnkey reconstruction solutions, the company provides rapid, tailored support for commercial and residential properties impacted by water, fire, storm, and mold damage.
“Our work at the Grand Bohemian Lodge exemplifies what we do best, helping communities recover quickly while preserving what matters most,” said Jim Cashman, BMS CAT CEO.
