For Immediate Release:

Global-BMS to assist TAM Airlines With Personal Effects Recovery

Dallas/Fort Worth, TX - Global-BMS (BMS) has begun personal effects recovery for TAM Airlines following the crash of Flight 3054 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. TAM contracted with BMS several years ago. TAM and BMS are providing an International Standard of Care for the recovery and return of personal effects to the families.

The personal effects with a loved one at the time of the loved one's passing take on a great sentimental and emotional significance. Family members may also see a loved one's recovered personal effects as a token or memorial of the passenger's last moments of life. The ability to return these personal effects is part of the emotional healing process.

BMS will recover personal effects from the crash site. Recovered items will be cleaned, sanitized and delivered to family members that have requested this service. There will be quite a few people working initially including engineers and recovery experts, to complete this sensitive project which will perhaps take months.

As with an event of this nature, the first priority for TAM and BMS is to secure the site. BMS employs advanced security protocols with 24 hour security guards: all approved personnel are issued ID badges, and all personal items must be removed before entering the secured area.

TAM and BMS are working with and coordinating recovery efforts with the Brazilian authorities. Through a cooperative effort between agencies, every attempt will be made to recover as many personal effects as possible.

Every disaster is different and recovery protocols must be adapted for each individual event. Working in a major urban area such as Sao Paulo, Toronto, Canada or New York City is very challenging. Debris from this crash will have to be separated from the building materials. There are always personal effects that can be recovered and there will be many items to be sorted. The quantity or condition of items will not be known until the work is complete.
